Take a tour of the receiving area
A tour of an automated receiving area isn’t usually something you’re allowed to do. But now you can.
At Zealand University Hospital in Køge, the automated goods receiving system is now operational. Transport carts are guided through the intake area, after which conveyor belts, transfer carts, hoists, and scissor lifts ensure that the cart and its contents arrive at the right place at the right time.
It may be that the cart is part of a larger shipment that needs to be delivered at the same time to a branch, or that other carts are coming later that need to be prioritized. The system keeps track of all this and dispatches the carts accordingly.
The carts end up in the hospital basement, where AGVs transport them to the wards.
The empty carts are returned to the loading area, where drivers can pick them up and transport them to external departments.
With automated goods receiving, employees are spared the task of manually pushing carts—a task that can easily be performed in an ergonomically incorrect manner, leading to pain and physical strain.
And the risk of errors is significantly reduced when the computer system keeps track of which carts are going where and in what order.
