Robots and CNC machines to work together at Dolle

The final touches have been put on a large automation system that has been taking up space in Gibotech’s production hall over the past few months. The system has now been packed up and is in the process of being installed at Dolle A/S.

Dolle is the world’s leading manufacturer of loft ladders, loft stairs, and accessories. And production will soon become even more efficient when the company installs an automation system from Gibotech.

The system combines two technologies: a CNC machine and a robot. Together, they form a so-called “cell” designed to optimize the production flow. The CNC machine, of course, processes the workpieces, while the robot loads and unloads them and repalletizes them after processing is complete. Conveyor belts transport the workpieces into and out of the cell in stacks.

"We are very pleased that Dolle chose Gibotech to supply their new automation solution. A CNC machine is always worth considering if you want to optimize and streamline your production. In this case, we’ve further optimized the workflow by adding a robot to operate the machine. This provides an even more stable workflow, high flexibility, quick changeovers, and the ability to run small batches. And at the same time, it creates better working conditions for the employee,” says Henrik G. Thomsen, Product Manager, CNC at Gibotech.

Focus on safety

And working conditions for employees are also a key factor when the automation system at Dolle goes into operation.

When working with machines and robots of the size that Dolle is having installed, safety must, of course, be a top priority. Gibotech’s own QHSE department has handled this, ensuring that safety is managed in accordance with all applicable regulations. For example, safety zones are in place that will shut down the system if they are breached.

The CNC machine for Dolle was chosen in part because of its exceptional stability, but especially because of its vertical machining plane, which ensures that all chips and shavings fall to the bottom of the machine onto a conveyor belt. This process eliminates the need to clean the machining area after every workpiece change. This saves a significant amount of time, which in turn results in more workpieces being machined.

We wanted to make our production even more efficient. That’s why we chose an automation solution capable of handling the entire machining process. We’ve enjoyed a great partnership with Gibotech throughout the process, and now we’re looking forward to them installing the solution so we can start using it.
